Q: What is the Friends of the Larchmont Public?
A: The Friends of the Larchmont Public Library, an independent, not-for-profit 503(c), was established in 1976 to provide financial and volunteer support for the Larchmont Public Library.
Q: Why is it needed?
A: Government funding alone does not finance all of the needs and cultural events that make our Library such a special community resource for all ages.
Q: What does The Friends of the Larchmont Public Library do?
A: The Friends supplies funding for, among other things:
Numerous museum passes that allow library patrons to visit specific museums in New York City, Manhattan, Westchester County, Dutchess County, Putnam County, Orange County and Greenwich for free.
Regular Sunday afternoon in-person programs for the public, including refreshments.
Funding as needed for the library, including upgraded Wi-Fi, furniture for the staff rooms, the teen space and the children’s room and iPad and telescopes for the children’s room.
Funding to greatly expand the library’s book, magazine and e-book collection.
Sponsored annual events in the past, such as the winter Mini-Golf in the library, spring Spelling Bee and Halloween Scarecrow Festival.
