The Lost Leonardo: The Most Expensive Painting Ever Sold with Art World Insider Evan Beard

Salvator Mundi —widely but not unanimously attributed to Leonardo da Vinci—was discovered in New Orleans in 2005 and purchased for $1,175. Promoted as “the male Mona Lisa,” the painting sold a dozen years later for a record $450 million to Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince. “This is the most improbable story, I think, that’s ever happened in the art market,” says Evan Beard, Global Art Services Executive at Bank of Executive at Bank of America.

Now a splendid documentary that will be widely released in 2022, the story of The Lost Leonardo is also a whodunit about the shadowy world that is international art dealing. Evan Beard, who is in the film, will share clips that examine the power and greed of the world’s richest men, the fascinating world of art restoration, and the calculated shrewdness of famed art institutions, including the Louvre.
